JV Boys execute, will play Alpharetta for championship next Saturday

The JV Knights beat both Northview and Milton to advance to the Region 6 Class 5A JV Boys championship game. The championship game will again be a rematch between Centennial and Alpharetta. In 2011 it was the Alpharetta Raiders who knocked out top seeded Milton while Centennial eliminated the Roswell Hornets. On Saturday it was our Centennial Knights taking down the Milton Eagles, who were again the number one seed team and Alpharetta stopped Roswell from advancing to the championship.

In Saturday's first game against Northview, both teams started slow offensively in the first few minutes but the Knights adjusted quickly and never looked back. Aaron Mayo finished with 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists and Hunter Phillips played great and the Knights won 58-42 despite a solid effort in the fourth by Northview.

Game two was a rematch from the previous day against Milton, who won a tight one in a comeback effort behind a barrage of 3 pointers. The Knights played well early and often, and in the third quarter they led by 12 and Milton made their run. Future star Ethan Staes hit jumpers and Milton picked up their defense to pull within one in the fourth. But the Knights resiliently answered their run, retaking a comfortable lead, and won the free throw battle at the end of the game to beat Milton.  Tre Hansbrough scored 12 and Aaron Mayo finished with 9. The final score was 53-47. The Knights will meet Alpharetta in the finals on Saturday Feb. 4th at 3:30 pm at Alpharetta high school.

In the 9th grade tournament the Knights defeated Northview in what coach Cole said "The team played it's best game all year". The final score was 45-39.  The 9th grade boys will face Roswell in the first of two games to finish their tournament and the season next Saturday.
